No pretty paper or shiny bows, the gift came
Wrapped in strips of cloth, no oohs or awes
Were heard that night, nothing tremendous would
Man behold, no trumpet herald, no
Gold embossed announcements sent

No headline news, no chariots came, no killing
Of the fatted calf, no proclamation to royalty
Sent, no cheering crowds, no flowers given
Little anticipation of this event, no showers
Thrown, no pictures taken

No Doctor called, no midwife came, no
Fanfare this gift was given, no stork
Proudly placed on the lawn, no pretty
Balloons in blue were bought, naught
For a poor babe, born that night

No media coverage of this event, no
Congratulatory messages by heads of
State, angels rejoiced, animals brayed
This Babe born, to mend the breach of God
And man, in a little town called Bethlehem.
